Vaishnav Devi Trip

Today on the first day of Navratri, I remember our trip to Vaishnav devi fondly.

My long-awaited dream trip to Vaishno Devi finally came true in July this year. Vaishno Devi was an incarnation of a mix of Kali, Lakshmi, and Sarasvati.A few days ago, my mom and I went to Jammu to get the darshan of Vaishno Devi. It was long upon the Trikuta mountains, 5200 feet high. The mountains are named after her name. Vaishno Devi as a child would go to the mountains every night to help and feed the villagers living there. But she didn't want to reveal her identity as a princess which is why she told the villagers that her name was Trikuta.

Our journey started on a very foggy and cold morning. We went up on a horse for the first half of the mountain and took a car for the next half to reach the top. When we reached, we saw the Ardhkuwari cave where Vaishno Devi had hidden for nine months when Bhairavnath had come to entice her. He was considered to have control over all Tantrik siddhis and had grown arrogant about his power. Mata Vaishno Devi took the form of Kali and beheaded Bhairav and at last, he realized her true form and asked for forgiveness. She forgave him and made an announcement that anyone's darshan of her won't be complete without visiting Bhairavnath's temple.

From Ardhkuwari cave we went to the main cave where Vaishno Devi had meditated for years. We could see many of her idols as we went to the cave. When she went to heaven she let her soul into three rocks inside the cave which are now worshipped as her form. I could feel a very divine energy as I got the darshan of the three rocks like Vaishno Devi was right in front of me. Coming back on the horse, the horse owner told us that his horse's name was Sheru which was also Vaishno Devi's Lion's name. I recollected that Devi Parvati had gifted her a cub when she was young and Sheru grew big after all the years Vaishno Devi meditated in the cave which is why she is also known as Sherawali.

We came back home in the evening but still the voices of "Jai Mata di" echoed in my mind.

  8. You are prodigious Sanaa having ardent passionate desires. Your vignette gave us the picturesque we are proud of you. Now a small clarification from you. You mention in your blog that first half you covered on a horseback and then by a car here i failed to undestand the topographic situation of the area as per me it should have been vice versa

    1. Thank you so much Arun kaka. The roads were steep after the first half which horses can't ride on which is why there are battery cars which can go up on the second half of the road.
